In the mid to late 1800s Mangonui Harbour was a very busy trading port. Many sailing ships visited the ports, some to pick up cargoes of timber and other local products. They dumped ballast rocks in the harbour when arriving empty before loading up. Many of these remain today - like these used to building a set of steps near the Old Oak Hotel. #photography #aotearoa #doubtlessbay #rocks
