If I'm running #FreeBSD 15.0p1 on RELEASE then should I not replace drm-kmod with drm-latest-kmod ?

@justine 15-STABLE should be ABI compatible so you don’t have to. I would only switch if you’re having issues, or if you want to be a tester for the new shiny. Depends on your appetite for trouble. 😈 👿

Thanks but I'm on 15-RELEASE and have drm-kmod installed so would I be better with drm-latest-kmod ?

@justine aah i read 15.1 as a typo for STABLE but you meant 15.0p1, my bad. So the same applies, you only need newer kmods if you want the additional fun and risk of shenanigans.

@justine I don’t think it’s necessary but I’d probably keep both ports & kmods on the same variant of quarterly or latest.

The kmods repo is designed to make the future 15.0 -> 15.1 upgrade easier for users.

Prior to the drm drivers we could reliably ensure ABI compatibility but since then, it’s been much harder.

This allows the project to build 15.1 kmods on a 15.1 package builder, and keep 15.0 kmods built on a 15.0 builder.
