A while ago I whinged here about Optus, who had leaked my personal info in 2022. They had cancelled my passport for “online verification”, and I only learnt why that was important when wanting to update my security level in the Aussie government ID app.

I called them; they said I was too late to claim, and that they’d only give me account credit anyway (I’m no longer a customer), and then said they’d call me back and they didn’t.

So, I wrote a complaint letter…

The only way to fix my passport is to get a new one. Which would cost $260 or something for five years, or $422 for ten years. My passport has five years to go. I told Optus that I expected them to refund me for a passport renewal since it is their fault I need to renew.

I wasn’t expecting much; but a very apologetic man from Optus called me yesterday, and will send a cheque for $422 in the next ten days…
