Interesting retail #ux observation: the coffeeshop and the sandwich shop with standard human cashiers were hopping busy.

The automated QR code driven pizza place was a total ghost town. This was at LAX

@scottjenson I don't think the number of screens is the only problem... I suppose even a good ol' vending machine would work better.

I'm not trying to be a neo-luddite here. This tech should be explored. Just saying that in this particular case, it's clearly not working. #IRLUserStudy

@scottjenson I had my first experience of a drive through speaker being a robot (mimicking a human) and it was HORRIBLE. Though the problem probably wasn’t the tech so much as the fact that they were trying to frame it as a human (so uncanny valley). If they were more honest about what it was I mightn’t care as much

@scottjenson I think it’s not just a tech issue. While I can gather that Pizza Please probably has pizza, nothing about their booth/kiosk tells me anything about the menu items they have. There are no photos, examples, etc. From the photo, it’s not clear what I’m supposed to do (maybe it’s more clear in person).

@ramsey fair point it's like they off loaded EVERYTHING to the digital experience. It's a bit weird

@scottjenson Is each of those blue squares a door that you open to get food from, like a vending machine?

@scottjenson Oh, thank you. I didn't know that. Weird. I mean, you could today criticize tech economic, ecologic and social aspects of tech - as we know the concept of sustainability. But rejecting tech completely?

@scottjenson

I almost went into a 'cafe' that had a giant touch screen ordering thing that I spotted through window and noped out before opening the door.
