Have you got registrations set to require approval? If you're concerned about the population growth on your service, you are allowed to turn down some people's requests for accounts. You also have the option of switching to invite-only registrations for a while.
To make room for newbies, maybe encourage existing members to consider migrating to another service, where they've found others who share their interests.
@pj According to FediDB there are currently 6,200 accounts on this server at the oment.
@pj I think a good thing to do would be to start working on a document teaching people how to move their account to a new server, should Forkiverse be forced to shut down.
And of course give people a decent amount of time to prepare for that if it comes to it.
There's one at https://fedi.tips/transferring-your-mastodon-account-to-another-server/
fedi.tips generally has a lot of info on how Mastodon and the Fediverse in general work, though the load of detail means there's a lot to read.
@Anke Thanks, but I think Fedi.tips is overly verbose and intimidating
