So I logged back into Facebook for awhile.
Ugh.
You know... I'm gonna just say it. And yes, this is me being snobbish and elitist right now. Feel like an asshole; might delete later.
Half the problem with Facebook is me. I can't see people only 2 degrees separate from me be that dumb and not say something. Against my better judgment and against benefit for social cohesion.
... and half the problem is them. You know what I like about Mastodon? It's a different kind of stupid, When yinz are being dumb, you're being earnestly dumb. Dumb but within the parameters of what you know and trying your best. Intellectually-curiously-dumb. Smart-dumb.
The dumb I see on Facebook is just dumb-dumb. Head-in-the-sand dumb. "My Fourth Amendment Rights aren't as important as enforcing immigration law" dumb.
I need to stop trying to bail the ocean and I need to remember that I left that site because I didn't want to feed Zucc's algorithm anymore and also sometimes I need a mental health break from the raw, visceral reminder that I share a democracy with that level of deeply uninspired civics-class dropout.
