The electrical company cracked open our building today to replace some equipment. While this was going on, an electrical shed several streets away spontaneously exploded and took out power for half of Amsterdam — but somehow not us.
the expensive-looking equipment has been abandoned in the parking lot. I’m sure it’s fine to leave out overnight… 😅
My peers in the city center are laughing about how the only thing that’s turned out to be self-sufficient during the outage are the parking meters
@0xabad1dea Working at an ISP, we once moved to a shiny new office they'd hooked up to the UPS of the data center down the street. The capacity not being that great, they had red outlets "for the important stuff" and grey ones for everything else. When a transformer blew up and plunged most of the city into darkness, all the routers and workstations turned off and only the printers, the fax and the pump for a colleague's desktop fountain stayed on. Turned out they'd wired it the other way round and nobody ever tested.
