She did a Rosa Parks 9 months before Parks did, but for some reason didn't make the news in the same way, which is maybe why you haven't heard of her. I will confess that I hadn't until I heard about her on the radio this morning.
Anyway, a true pioneer of the US civil rights movement who deserves to be remembered.
And now I'm wondering how many other people did a Rosa Parks before Parks did that we still don't know about.
I'm sure there must be a large element of randomness in which acts of courage and defiance get news coverage and which don't.
@statsguy worth remembering that the civil rights movement picked Rosa because she was the “perfect” resister, and arranged for her resistance to be widely covered. This does not take anything from her or them, rather illustrates how much this was happening but didn’t get coverage until a well organised action was put together.
