TIL about the SS Richard Montgomery, an American Liberty ship that was built during World War II. She was wrecked on the Nore sandbank in the Thames Estuary, near Kent, England, in Aug 1944. About 1,400 tons of explosives remain on board presenting a low to moderate explosive hazard.
