If you’ve got links, zines, checklists, lessons learned, drop them in the replies. If you’re down to help, say what you can offer (hardware, training, translation, testing). Let’s stitch together a people’s playbook for comms under repression. The fediverse is a start; infrastructure we own is the endgame. No more begging landlords for permission to speak. 🏴

If folks have firsthand or trusted secondhand reports from Iran about staying connected during shutdowns, please share. I’ve heard some people are using satellite links; I know Starlink is part of that mix—but I’d love specifics beyond rumors. What actually worked? What failed? What did people wish they had ready before the net went dark?

Let’s map options we can control:
— local mesh networks (LoRa, Wi-Fi mesh)
— small community ISPs / co-ops
— offline-first tools & sneakernet practices
— community radio + ham bridges
— satellite where possible (but eyes open about cost/control)
— practical opsec for high-risk moments
What else belongs here? Docs, guides, case studies welcome.

Peeps in #Iran are using a combination of Starlink terminals and a peer to peer browser called Ceno to get info out. Super interesting!

An ecosystem of smuggled tech holds Iran’s last link to the outside world

Despite internet blackout, a small number of Iranians are risking their lives to share messages as protests continue
