On January 13, 1991, Lithuania faced the challenge of defending its restored independence. Soviet military units flooded into Lithuania and occupied strategically important sites. At that time, the Lithuanian state lacked adequate weapons, and the national defense system was still in its infancy, but the determination of the people to defend their country was decisive.



Fourteen defenders of freedom were killed and more than 500 people who were guarding the TV tower were injured. Their courage became an inspiration to create a free, democratic, and progressive state
