2026 is the Year of Self-hosting

CLI agents like Claude Code make self-hosting dramatically easier and actually fun. This is the first time I would recommend it to normal software-literate people.

@elettrona Hey! Great question. Most mini PCs boot into standard Linux/Windows, so screen reader support depends on the OS. For initial WiFi setup:

Ethernet first - plug in, configure WiFi over SSH after
Pre-configure WiFi credentials on the drive before first boot
Ubuntu Server lets you set WiFi in the installer config

What mini PC are you looking at? Happy to dig into specifics.v

@elettrona Nice lineup! WordPress multisite + Lemmy + Castopod is a solid combo for content + community + podcasting.
For that stack, I'd recommend at least 8GB RAM, 4 cores. A used Optiplex or ThinkCentre would handle it, or a mini PC like Beelink/Minisforum if you want something quieter.
Matrix can be resource-hungry depending on federation - might want to start with XMPP if you're testing. Have you looked at Prosody? Lightweight and plays nice with other self-hosted stuff.

@elettrona Solid setup! YunoHost on a VPS is a great start. For home, a used Dell Optiplex or Lenovo ThinkCentre runs ~$50-100 and handles most self-hosting needs. More power than your VPS too.
Main trade-off: VPS = always on, no power/ISP worries. Home = more control, no monthly fees, but you manage uptime.
What are you looking to host? That'll help narrow it down.
