So far, only Canadian PM Carney has handled the threat of annexation correctly. No negotiation, no appeasement, just a clear and simple retort: “Not for sale now. Not for sale ever.”

Trump Eyes Greenland, and
Europe Figures Its Best Bet
Is a Negotiation
European officials were stunned that
President Trump restated his desire for
Greenland after a yearlong effort to
dissuade him, according to diplomats and
others.

@xankarn From Rasmus Jarlov, Conservative MP from #Denmark.
#trump #Greenland

Post from Rasmus Jarlov (Conservative MP in Denmark. Chairman of Denmark's Defence Committee. Former minister of business in Denmark.)

The USA already has a defence agreement with Denmark that gives them exclusive and full military access to Greenland. But they are not using it. They have downgraded their presence by 99%.

Now, apparently, they are telling their base that they need to invade and annex Greenland because they need to have a large military presence.

Two maps showing:

Historic American military presence in Greenland (15.000 troops at peak)

American military presence in Greenland today (150 troops)

Dear Europeans,

Do not appease Trump. Stand up. Tell him, "no, not under any circumstances."

The US people

@Steve @xankarn Thank you for reaching out!
I guess, uf you would be representative for "the US people" the situation would be different.
No appeasement, also remembering historic examples in Europe!
So we need to build alliances instead of hoping in vain that "the other side of the pond" can fix it.
-> what do you need from Europe to "get back in practice" and what can European leaders do specifically?

@chrispy @xankarn I'm seeing articles about European leaders considering negotiating with Trump for Greenland. What they *should* be saying is that there is nothing to negotiate, because territorial sovereignty is not open for debate. If they spoke up more forcefully about Venezuela, they would have recent precedent to point to.

@Steve @xankarn We the people we try, but our politicians (The Dutch) are weak. Those f*cking bastards. They still don't get it.

@fenixmaster @xankarn I don't understand it. This is textbook tyranny. This is history repeating in the clearest and most obvious way.

For our part, we need to stand up, as well, but we are really out of practice, and it's taking us a long time to figure out what to do.

Also, it’s past time for being stunned.

Europe should regard Trump and the US the same way they do Putin/Russia.

It’s more complicated because of the way we are entangled, but the fact of abandonment needs to sink in.

I am not a hawk. Far from it.

But Europe must not pin its hopes on reasonable people managing Trump and walking him back from the brink. There are no adults in the room with him, and the MAGA clique is utterly and irreversibly intoxicated by their own sense of power and destiny.

“Nothing can stop me, but my own morality,” Trump claimed this week.

No alliance or partnership can exist on such unstable terrain.
