Good riddance! I deleted my #Google ( #Scholar) account. Find my h-index and other gameable statistics on #OpenAlex at: https://openalex.org/authors/a5108167267

BTW, my publications are still there at: https://scholar.google.com/scholar?q=djoerd+hiemstra

@M My name is very uncommon, but I have that problem too! Here's the other Djoerd Hiemstra, there's some mix ups on both sides... https://openalex.org/works?filter=authorships.author.id:a5075487887
I hope @OpenAlex will fix this at some point (and return to the Fediverse)

#Google Scholar assumes that all PDFs on university servers are academic publications. This means that people who supervise a lot of BA and MA theses in Swedish #archaeology have huge citation scores on GS. Because they encourage their students to cite their work. But they teach a lot and so have few publications to cite.

@mrundkvist Yeah, that too. But mostly, Google has been evil for most of their existence... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Google

@djoerd OpenAlex seems nice (and I imagine it's a non-profit?) but if it doesn't show the list of articles and their citation counts I don't think it can replace google scholar..

@elduvelle OpenAlex is run by #OurResearch, a nonprofit dedicated to making research open. You can click "View works" to view all my publications: https://openalex.org/works?filter=authorships.author.id:a5108167267

@djoerd @elduvelle
I found many errors in the openalex database.
Like authors with articles published in 2025 as well as 1920...

But I have found no way to signal the problem to them and get it fixed.

I do not consider it a reputable source of data to be used for h-index calculations.

@djoerd @elduvelle
Google scholar is not generally considered a reliable source for h-index calculations.
What I see as most accepted is Web of Science.
