In what is probably yet another example of optimism over experience. Have filed another bug report on an opensource project. I await finding out what unusual method this project uses to make the end user feel like shit this time...

@rigrig Nope. Got an email saying my bugs fail triage. And no indication of wtf that means.

@quixoticgeek Sounds like Open Source just isn't your kind of thing.

@timbray @quixoticgeek Open Source doesn't have to be snipey and self-righteous… it works best when there's a collaborative approach from (usually volunteer!) developers and their (hopefully loyal) user-base.

Not all projects/communities seem to like input from "mere mortals" (ie those who like what they've made, want to use it , want to help to make it better, but aren't able to be as heavily invested as the developer(s) would like). It can be very disheartening to go to the effort of reporting a bug in a bit of software you like only to be yelled at for holding it wrong or not being able to submit a PR to fix it.

TL;DR: Be nice, so we can all get along.

@timbray and *that* is just the sort of comment that makes it even worse. Wtf do you expect to achieve with this comment? seriously? wtf are you trying to do here?

@quixoticgeek OK, that was abrupt. Sorry. I tend to react bitterly to generalized complaints about open-source maintainers being unresponsive, for reasons outlined here: https://www.tbray.org/ongoing/When/202x/2025/11/16/Long-Links#p-12

Having said that:
1. I think it’s unfair to wield a brush as broad as you were. Not all OSS bug-triage is wonderful and not all is terrible.
2. Your experience is your experience. When it’s as negative as you describe, the “this is not for you” conclusion seems reasonable?
