A new report on Vernissage’s operating costs is now available, outlining where the money goes and how community support helps keep the platform running. I hope this level of transparency feels right and shows that your contributions are used thoughtfully and responsibly. If you’re curious how #Vernissage is sustained, I invite you to take a look at the full report.

@vernissage Love the transparency! I do have one question, though: Is there a plan to switch away from the Amazon and OpenAI services currently being used to run the site? I do consider those companies a big part of Big Tech, so I was slightly disappointed to learn about this.

Or am I misunderstanding something?

@seidcivic Thanks for asking! There are no plans to move away from AWS/OpenAI at the moment. AWS (S3 + CDN) is one of the most reliable and cost-effective ways to handle file storage and delivery. OpenAI is only used optionally during file upload - if you don’t want to use it, you don’t have to. Nothing is forced.

If you like the project, support is always appreciated 😉

@vernissage

Could you tell us how many active users Vernissage.photos currently has? In other words: What are the costs per user?

@ruanjoma As of today, vernissage.photos has 390 registered users, around 80 of them are active. Currently, 21 people support the project. To fully cover the costs, each active user would need to contribute about $4–5 per month 😉.
