Today being World #Braille Day, I acknowledge that to most, it's a series of random-seeming dots on elevators or ATM's. To me, and other #blind people, it's the gateway to literacy, education, and success.

My parents made me learn it and print simultaneously, suspecting my usable vision wouldn't last forever. They were right.

But thanks to Braille, I'm functionally literte, and I attribute much of my life's personal and professional success to this dotted code.

@sclower @JonathanMosen I'm a proud Braillist and have celebrated World's Braille Day together with Digital Independence Day. Braille gives access to literacy, education, despite its complex learning curve.
But it's far from obsolete for modern tech. I definitely write long texts using my smartphone's input Braille screen, this has been a brilliant idea from Apple to take advantage of multi-touch technology to create a method for braillists to write.
Then, Braille is also fundamental to use computer commands and code.
If you have to write "sudo yunohost diagnosis run --force" you must know that before the word force, dash signs are two.
And when you have complex computer output, even more important to have a refreshable Braille device too. My selfhosting adventure could never start without Braille.
Main obstacles to Braille? It's very difficult to learn for someone who goes blind late in their life. I remember my ex, with all the meds he had to take. He was always with "honey, could you read this box?" Till I said "manage yourself with qr codes, damn!"
Let alone when voice-only makes you misspell words and miss important information.
Then, of course the costs for a teacher, and for apparates. Braille paradoxically helps blind people learn to read the world, but is far from inclusive.
