Sooooo... thinking about the possibility and feasibility of big life changes, namely studying opera seriously in Europe. Would love to connect with other #Blind language learners, especially those using #braille as a component of their learning. Currently learning #French. Am particularly interested in chatting with people who have taught themselves grade 2 French Braille as well as those who are either conversational or fluent and/or who have worked in or currently live in a #Francophone European country. If this is you or you're in any way adjacent to this world, please reach out. Would love to talk to you. Would also love to chat with people who use #MusicBraille / #BrailleMusic in Europe.

I've recently been working on creating digital braille files (.brf and .pef) of all my books. They're now available from my direct store at https://russellphillips.uk/books/
Most are just £0.99, and this weekend you can use coupon code Fedi20 to get 20% off them along with anything else.

Last boost, anyone who says that #Braille is dying is dead wrong. Braille is our code, it is the code for us #Blind people and its not dead, I read braille, many people read Braille, and it should continue to be taught and learned by people, it should never be allowed to go away, without it, we can't read, no, I'm not going to budge on this point and anyone who says different simply doesn't understand true literacy.
Weekend goal: a #Lua chunk (script) to help sighted users review #Braille. It's a great way to understand how visually impaired users interact with a computer using a screen reader and a Braille display. The script is simple and easy to configure. Currently, it offers a learning mode; in the future, a challenge mode will be added, along with a blog post explaining how to set it up.

On #FreeBSD it should be executable via flua:
% flua learnbraille.lua
after installing liblouis:
# pkg install liblouis
[edit] % /usr/libexec/flua learnbraille.lua
Letters and numbers in #Braille learned and memorized! Next task: punctuation marks 👨💻 📖 😅
