@darkling @Nickiquote YES. From now on, whenever the idea of the "marketplace of ideas" comes up, I'm referring to it as The Intellectual Dark Tesco (or in USian, the Intellectual Dark Walmart).

@Nickiquote I'm now wondering what a Dark Tesco is, and why it needs a car park.
@darkling It’s like the dark web, so basically Tesco but full of drugs and illegal pornography.
...something something Intellectual Dark Tesco, write your own punchline here...
@woozle @Nickiquote Is that what they call the marketplace of ideas?

@Nickiquote illicit blahaj transfer
@ferrix @Nickiquote Illicit Blahaj Transfer is an EP by an Aphex Twin side-project, you can't fool me
@Nickiquote feels rather like when during the first lockdown a friend and I both went to an empty pub car park, waved at one another, put down a plastic carrier bag each ten metres apart, walked over to pick up the other's carrier bag and then left.
Admittedly one carrier bag contained a couple of rolls of bog roll and the other had a rhubarb crumble, but I've never felt so much like a protagonist in a John Le Carré novel.
@afewbugs @ShaulaEvans @Nickiquote I similarly met a friend from a permaculture group to pick up some vetiver grass clumps to plant on a steep hill in my garden.
We both giggled mightily at being two middle class moms meeting in a suburban parking lot to deal grass!
@GinevraCat @afewbugs @ShaulaEvans @Nickiquote during one of the lockdowns. I met a friend on a park bench to exchange some electronic components. It felt like a spy exchange with guidance chips...
