One person mourns the death of the Open Internet.

I think a Fediverse, with multiple user-experiences, that is indexable, machine-legible, discoverable, and searchable by default could help counter this unfortunate trend.

"""
Absolutely wild how dead the open internet is. Everything is on TikTok, Instagram, Discord, or Facebook groups now. None of those are searchable (if Google even worked). Reddit wikis and discussion are ghost towns. Non-academic research is impossible.

I'm trying to research some niche yet normie stuff to find the best option and previously you'd have a random autist that happened to veer into normal interests or above median people on Reddit making suggestions and it just isn't there now. Its scattered in comments on reels.
