I have a filter here for various US political words like Trump, MAGA, etc. Those have been getting a great workout today. What I really like is I could tell something was happening this morning and pick WHO I wanted to see hot takes from, instead of getting everyone’s. And tonight, as I’m tired and as well informed as I’m going to be for now (there’s no real new info), I can scroll past the CW’d posts from the filters and read other things. A+, recommended as a feed management method. #feditips

I talk a lot about filters here, because I see firsthand in my work the mental health effects of confusing “witnessing” and “being informed” with doomscrolling. They are not the same, and it’s also impossible and unhealthy to attempt to witness every bad thing happening today. There’s just too much. And there will always be too much; the world is huge and humans are violent.

This doesn’t mean “hide and do nothing”, but an essential modern skill is learning personal priorities and limits.
