Every time I read about a trans or otherwise gender non-conforming person commiting suicide, regardless of whether I know them or not, it feels like I lost a sibling.

Usually I can direct the anger at queerphobic governments, far-right pundits, neo-nazis and the like. But this time it is our own fault. It has to come to my attention that one of the attendees at #39c3 had to put up with abuse during the event, felt extremely isolated and ended their own life.

I do not know this person, I do not know the exact circumstances that led to this. But I know that if we as a community cannot support each other, we might as well be no proper community at all.

CCC as an organisation has to fix their shit and so does the hacker community collectively.

Actually not sure if I'll go to #40c3.

But I will more proactively be looking out for people in need of help, I feel like that's the least I can do.
