Rather than new year's resolutions, I'm experimenting with a checklist for 2026: things I want to try and do every day. This is my list, and I'd love to read yours. https://werd.io/a-2026-checklist/

@ben Hello Ben. Are you familiar with yearly “themes”? Might suit your plans. (You don’t need to buy the special journal to have a theme.)

@ben I really like the idea! Now I am a bit torn between making something digital where I easily can get monthly and yearly stats and something in paper to keep by my desk. I have been using scrap paper for this for a while and enjoy both planning the day and ticking things off but having some consistent for habit building is alluring.

@ben

I've been keeping a checklist on an index card for my daily tasks for many years now. It works!

There's something to checking things off a list that really helps me get through the day.

My list is indecipherable scribbles, so I won't show you a picture, but the daily tasks that absolutely have to get done every day (many of which are completely rote, like letting the chickens out and meditating, but I'm still likely to forget to do them if I get distracted by something) go down the right side, and then the tasks specific to that particular day go along the left side under the date.

They all get little check boxes, of course.

I think the most I've had in a recent counting has been 27 things "to do" in one day. 😬

I've tried doing this list electronically, and I've tried doing it on a reusable pad, but there's something about the little piece of paper that I can carry around with me that works the best for me.

It's also fun to check the boxes with a pen and scribble out things that I'm not going to do that day and perhaps move them to the next day's card. I try to use recycled-content index cards at least.

@ben this year I want to be the year I journal consistently. I got a #supernote for my birthday and I've been pretty consistent, but I want to aim for writing something personally at least 20 days a month.

@ben

▢ Review and refine my check list on the last day of every month and start fresh with new resolve the next day.
