@karen @bkuhn Six years on, and with these companies now openly standing with Trump and complicit in Israel’s ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people, do you still support your decision to have Google and Microsoft as sponsors at your conference? Would you do so again today?

@aral

AFIAK, SFC have the only #FOSS conference in existence that criticizes sponsors for their bad behavior each day in the opening remarks.

When was the last time #LinuxFoundation admitted publicly that their giant list of event sponsors are often bad actors? 2012, I think?

Some companies won't sponsors SFC events b/c they don't want to be criticized like this. #SFC's integrity is not for sale; if you buy ☕∀ our attendees, you gotta live with public-stated list of grievances.

@bkuhn @karen “Hello, we are Greenpeace and we want to take a moment to talk to you about our naughty sponsors, Exxon Mobil – *waves at Allen from Exxon Mobil* – now, they’re not so evil or socially unacceptable that we won’t take their money but they sure are naughty… be better Exxon Mobil, m’kay?… Oh, and how naughty of you telling everyone that you care about the environment as a sponsor of Greenpeace. You’re so naughty, Exxon Mobil!”

Not a thing.

Ever wonder why?

@aral These are really tough decisions to make and we make our decisions very thoughtfully. You can see my talk from #FOSDEM last year about it:
