@molly0xfff Thanks for this link. I’m split-keyboard-curious and this was very informative
@molly0xfff Oh BTW our first PC keyobard had spacebar split into two keys and the right one was backspace
@molly0xfff
I highly recommend splits. I bought a Kinesis and also a couple of Sofle kits but haven't built them yet. Have to learn hot air soldering first!
@molly0xfff lawl I’m gonna send this to him.
@molly0xfff What do you use? What do you desire?
@brentharrell I've used an Ergodox Infinity for about ten years now and I'm really happy with it
@molly0xfff after a week of travel and typing directly on my laptop I'm soooo happy to be back on my split
@molly0xfff +1 on the ZSA Moonlander. I also very much wanted the TextBlade to be a thing, but sadly it never quite made it: https://www.fastcompany.com/91249548/waytools-textblade-pocket-keyboard
@molly0xfff Some day I'll buy one of those, just for the scifi-ish look
(hello Simon, this is your wallet, wallet says no)
@molly0xfff I have the very same Kinesis Advantage360 SmartSet keyboard
https://kinesis-ergo.com/shop/adv360/
which Chris mentions (and pictures) in his article, and I think he's incorrect to say "their boards do not offer custom mapping". The whole point of this keyboard is that you can create ten different profiles of key mappings (using the software it comes with) and then instantly switch between them with a two-key combo. Great for creating a gaming profile which moves problematic keys out of the way.
@molly0xfff I wish there were good split non-ortholinears. I've tried ortholinear repeatedly and it drives me nuts.
@luis_in_brief it's interesting, i've heard that sentiment from other folks too but i've found i really don't notice the difference between ortho and not!
@molly0xfff given the huge number of people who do use and love ortho, I have to imagine it is something about some people's joints v others?
Possibly related, connection I've never thought about until just now: I love five-toe shoes for the "splayed" feeling they give my toes? Has always felt more comfortable than cramped normal shoes. Wonder if that's at all related to how cramped my fingers feel on an ortho keyboard.
@molly0xfff I learned to touch type on a MS Natural Elite ergo split keeb. Such a tremendously good keyboard, I still have it but I need to fix some of the keys not registering properly. Probably the pads are worn out.

I'd be using a split kb today if I'd been able to find one as good as the MS Natural Elite!
@molly0xfff
I've been using the #keyboardio model 100 ever since it came out and the model 01 before that. I'm sad any time I have to use anything else.
