Oh my! Seems like you might soon, finally, be able to create chapters for your podcast directly in Audacity!

For years you've been able to add a file along with the audio in your podcast, which indicates chapters that people can jump between. Still, AFAIK, you still have to use a separate app just to create this, when it should be trivial in any audio editor!

In 2024 I asked #Audacity to implement this, and now it's marked as ready to merge! Yey! https://github.com/audacity/audacity/issues/7078

Wohoo! Now it's closed as completed!

I hope a lot more podcasters will start using chapters now that creating them will be trivially easy to do, after the next version of Audacity comes out! :)

This is also a great time for making it easier to create podcast chapters, since Apple Podcasts has recently implemented support for this Podcasting 2.0 standard – as I just learned from the amazing @Castopod project: https://blog.castopod.org/apple-podcasts-embraces-chapters-another-victory-for-podcasting-2-0/

Apple Podcasts Embraces Chapters: Another Victory for Podcasting 2.0

Apple Podcasts' adoption of the Podcasting 2.0 chapters standard proves that community-driven, open specifications can triumph over proprietary solutions—and marks another milestone in making podcasts more discoverable and accessible for everyone.
