Our wish for #2026: Stop using 'child safety' as an excuse for mass censorship and surveillance.
No one believes you.
And using children is just... sickening.

@Tutanota It's one of the oldest tricks in the book; using children to stir feelings of pity and compassion in people. Politicians have been exploiting people's emotional vulnerabilities to get them to support their shady policies.
@Tutanota its nearly perfect! No one will ever say, "no! dont save the children!" And this makes it harder to stay against it. Like they say "if someone has something to hide." or "if youre against chatcontrol in the eu, YOU ARE pedophile." Its perfect and no wonder that this is gotta be used as an argument.

This framing was cited in my own case just about week ago.
A police search and device seizure were justified as relating to “protecting vulnerable children,” including the arrest of a young family member.
A factual public record of these events is being maintained on my page.

@Tutanota Using child safety to justify surveillance is the digital equivalent of 'think of the children' hand-wringing.
@Tutanota Stop allowing children under 16 or even 18 to get access to violent, abusive or pornographic content. That is why they use words "child safety". I was adult when I saw my first terrorists cutting throat video, and those screams are still hounting me. I was almost about to faint, I was having mild panic attack. You want children get access to that? How about animal torture? Why do you want kids have access to sick content? Why word Netiquette matters nothing to some anymore...
@Tutanota I'll buy the "think of the children" stance after and only after the same politicians other actions clearly have been for children's benefit (and not just *their* children's benefit)

Berating users for "using #VPN" and wanting to "ban" or control it ("for the children"), the latest genius idea that seems to be brewing in several places now (UK, Denmark), is as egregiously ill-conceived as it is sickening.
This feels almost like an announcement to ban or control breathing.
