@triptych any and all of the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett. A wonderfully quirky and spoofish fantasy setting with stories that will make you laugh, cry, and find out what it really means to be human. It has several series within:

  • The archetype of a street cop noir detective brought into a vibrant fantasy city: start with Guards! Guards!

  • Death himself battles with loneliness and what it means to be nearly human: start with Mort

  • A coven of 3 witches use the power of headology to rewrite the stories they're in: start with Wyrd Sisters

  • A conman brought back from the brink of death to save... government services?: start with Going Postal

there are also standalone books:

  • A mighty god appears to his only true believer as a one eyed tortoise, and has to figure out how to hold on to the human He's got: Small Gods

  • A woman dresses as a man and joins the military of a small country in the middle of losing a war. And she's not the only one: Monstrous Regiment

@triptych The Blacktongue Thief by Christopher Buehlman. Fantastic, cynical voice.

@triptych Stealing from Wizards. Just finished the fourth and last book and never had such a feeling of satisfaction at the end of a series before.

@triptych Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and The Teller of Small Fortunes by Julie Leong were the two fantasies I read this year. Enjoyed them both.
