I went a bit mechanical engineering with my latest 3D project....

Made a gift card holder with a mechanical locking assembly and -- naturally -- had to make it #Fallout based to start

Open the Vault Door and get your prize. Or radiation poisoning. Whatever....

Of course since it's me I've made it modular for the inserts, including ones where you can customize a little bit of text for gifting it to someone.

Also since it's me the design is suited for any number of locking "ornaments" so expect some #Zelda and other stuff soon, too.

Files on Makerworld, of course.

Fallout Mechanical Locking Gift Card Box - Free 3D Print Model - MakerWorld

Download this free 3D print file designed by NTWinterbottom. The Overseer has a present for you…This is a locking gift card box with a Fallout twist.  Open your vault door to reveal the wasteland… or an Amazon gift card or something. Contains a few modular (some customizable) inserts for the Vault Door:Fallout LogoVault NumbersA customizable text insert for a name/etc.To edit the name - Go to Objects, look for Plate 3 → Custom Name Insert, right-click "Name", choose Edit TextGo to Objects, look for Plate 3 → Custom Name Insert, right-click "Name", choose Edit TextEdit Input text and adjust size as neededShould only need to adjust Y-Axis position as needed (adjust others if necessary) Everything prints with no supports or brims.  Assembly guides are below. Print Notes:Clean, clean, clean your build plate.  The device relies on flat, smooth surfaces for proper functionalityNon-AMS users can print the multicolor inserts, just making sure to swap filaments at Layer 11Build Notes:The hinges should snap into the middle/end level pieces snugly.  Pop them all the way through so they are flush and can move freely.  Some weaker filaments may be a bit brittle on the rivets (Soleyin particularly was very fragile with this assembly)Getting the hinge assembly into the lid can be a little tight and require some careful maneuvering, but once it's in it's not going anywhereThe top ornament aligns with the small peg in the center pivoting hinge.  Depending on filament tolerance it may “snap” together with the lever mechanism, but if it doesn't feel free to use a dot of glue inside the gear's hole and place the whole thing upside-down to dry so no glue can spill out downwards toward the lid (rendering it immovable)Boost MeIf you enjoy my models, please consider a boost.  It helps them reach more people so they can hopefully enjoy them too!
