@TheBreadmonkey it's a great job for sam altman, too. all the dangers will relate to how powerful ai is, and how capable, and how disruptive, and coincidentally, how far in the future. entire segments of the workforce will be obsolete, they will warn. but the corollary to that warning is the promise of the amount of profit that can be made if you are the one making those workers obsolete. phenomenal pitch.
notably, none of the dangers will be things that are happening now. ai damaging peoples’ relationships, degrading consensus reality, eroding knowledge-bases, rotting digital infrastructure, israel’s ai generated citizen kill lists, racist bias, none of that will be mentioned. or if it's mentioned, it will be hand-waved away as a minor teething problem on the way to the real danger, the artificial general intelligence agent that is will definitely result from open ai’s work.
it's actually a challenging gig, you gotta be very careful about what dangers you worry about.
Also terminator robots

@TheBreadmonkey I do this for free right now. Shiiiiiit.
@TheBreadmonkey if not you, Ed Zitron is kinda already doing this job for free in his head.
@TheBreadmonkey love how it absolutely implies he's never considered any dangers of Gen AI. 10/10 great company
@TheBreadmonkey if they don't give the job to a black trans woman they'll miss 95% of the dangers.
If they do, they'll lose 95% of their investors.
@TheBreadmonkey
All Sam Altman really needs to do, Ben, is read the posts on the Fediverse that accurately depict generative Ai, as opposed to corporate media that is in its thrall.
Having said that, I'd still be willing to write a letter of recommendation for you in pursuit of this role, if you really want it.
@TheBreadmonkey
Especially considering that Altman and the rest of the AI bros don’t actually want to hear about any potential dangers to their product.
It’s money for nothing!
Just off the top of my head - terminator robots, exploding toasters, LLMs saying unkind things about the way you look, your phone knowing all of your secrets, turning humans into big weird batteries like in the matrix so they have to live underground and wear dirty clothes and have orgies and weird names, making everything not real so we don't know what's what, developing other species to be dominant on the planet so we end up being subservient to rabbits I could go on. And that's without even really thinking about it. Hire me. I am the right man for the job. No Ai can predict me. AMANDA! It didn't know I was going to say that.
@TheBreadmonkey
I for one would welcome our toothsome & lolloping overladies
In rabbit society it's the does that make them rules.
@TheBreadmonkey predictably funny.
That's very kind of you but I can do other genres aswell. Drama for example.....
“What is the city but the people?"
- Sicinius, Coriolanus, a3s1
This doesn't really make sense but I ended up reading loads of Coriolanus quotes and I quite liked this one
@TheBreadmonkey this all correlates.
@TheBreadmonkey I have anxiety. This is basically my whole life. Gimme half a mil, I can imagine so many catastrophes.
"Here's my business card...."
*slides over business card where the title 'Catastrophe Imaginer' has been crossed out and 'Head of Preparedness' written underneath*
Taking notes….
@minmi @TheBreadmonkey the planned-for future never arrives
