Gonna try to see if my little 1969 Honda CT-70 can be coaxed into running after a few years of neglect... Trying to figure out how to sell a motorcycle with no title, and I figure "running" is a pretty good feature

If anyone has advice for things to do/not do with a bike thats been parked for 3 years, hmu. I have already torn this thing down and will probably do it again here, but if there's some secret rule like "the gas turns to poison after 3 years" that would be good to know
@jonny Check the tires, if there are lots of tiny cracks they need to be replaced (this is called "dry rot" by tire people)
You probably know this but here goes:
Gas loses a lot of volatiles while sitting; I would, at a minimum, drain the tank and replace.
Starting with old gas can cause starting issues.
The tank also may have formed a layer of "varnish" (not sure of the actual name) from the old gas that can flake off and clog the filter.
Not sure of the fix for that but it's a common problem. An auto parts store may be able to help you.
@lorgonumputz @jonny Also gasoline with ethanol can lacquer pretty quickly (~1yr). You may find it helpful to clean the carb bowl and jets with hexane, non-chlorinated brakekleen or cheap distillates.
The usual lubrication warnings for stored small engines: Fresh oil, then turn it over slowly several times before trying to start for real.
@jonny Yes, it goes bad. I don't know how quickly tho'... Um... yeah, okay. JD Power says your gasoline is bad, the tank should be emptied and gasoline replaced:

@moira
Dang. Amazing how "gas turns to poison" was just a pure instinct call. Guess I need to figure out how to drain this tank. It has little inline fuel filters that I imagine would get totally gummed up
@jonny I know this from world war II airplane salvage myself, but, well, instinct wins here too xD
How does facebook marketplace even work, apparently Craigslist is dead, is it a separate app?
@jonny I don't know about app stuff since I only ever use it in a browser but you can get to it on a regular computer browser. Also I have heard from people that it flags newer accounts as potential spam
Its a neat Lil bike, beautiful simple machine, a semi-rare Japanese import edition I had a lot of fun with on small Oregon roads during peak pandemic, but never bothered to get a title because I hate doing stuff like that. I need to get rid of it bc it makes no sense in LA but I have no idea how to price it lmao. "Good bike but ebikes have made it obsolete, cheap to a home of someone who loves cute old well engineered things"
