#movie #98: The Fellowship of the Ring

Also, I watched the extended version this time and it just reaffirmed my long-standing belief that the standard editions are better movies, and the extended versions are just “more LOTR” and that all some people want, which is fine. For me, it shows how impactful editing is on the final product, and how amazing a job they did for the theatrical cuts.

It's truly one of the greatest films ever made, a crowning achievement that feels positively impossible to have been made at all.
Thank god this came out in the height of the DVD era and we got deep behind-the-scenes and commentary tracks for these films. It would be such a crime to only get the overly-produced, hide-the-real-work BTS stuff we get today. I can't imagine how many people people got into movie making and special effects based on these features.
