Over 20 Robert Altman films are now on the #Criterion Channel. Pret-a-Porter was almost universally panned on its release in '94. Having watched it with little in the way of expectations, however, I found it a lot of fun. Certainly, coming immediately after The Player and Short Cuts, two of his absolute best, he's allowed some light slapstick and non-profundity. #film #movie #movies #robertaltman

The Vimeo documentary on Yanis Varoufakis was pretty good. I've heard it critiqued for smacking of hero worship or the like but sometimes certain people have a particularly good point and giving them your full attention can serve YOU more than it does anything for them.
I'll even add some hashtags here to try to get more attention on this. #politics #documentary #movie #economics
I wonder if the # Monsterdon crowd has ever watched the #movie Monster, about serial killer Aileen Wuornos. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say no.
I have to wonder what #hollywood is doing when the most recent film of that name is actually the dumbest idea I've ever seen for a #movie -
"What if aliens invaded but we didn't actually watch the invasion, we watched a guy watch an invasion dramatically like a #youtube reaction channel?".
That's the kinda thing a drunk stoner says.
Pardon my, um just slightly supercharged humour. Been meaning to watch this #Movie with kids for years now (they declined a couple of years ago) - and whaddya know: Kid1 won the special edition DVD in the library summer reading program!
So most fine #MovieTonight (I havent watched the full thing in 20+ years) - we're watching a Rocumentary by Martin Di Bergi™
(and dialing the fun up to 11)

Philly Anti-Capitalist: We Are Not Afraid Of Ruins
https://phlanticap.noblogs.org/we-are-not-afraid-of-ruins/
from O.R.C.A. We Are Not Afraid of Ruins is a film by Greek filmmaker Yannis Youlountas recently translated into English that follows the squatters’ movement from 2019-2024 in the anarchist stronghold of Exarcheia in Athens as they support refugees, resist incursions by organized fascists and the state, and try to live their day to day…

The #OnThisDay feature on my phone reminded me of a #cinema in #Oslo that uses advertising boards that aren't conventional movie poster size.
What they used to do was cut out the "important" bits from the poster and make their own collage - which I used to love and snap photos of sometimes.
If the cinema still did this today, I think I'd run a social media account just to document their #art / unique takes on #movie posters.
And again, speaking of #movies I just remembered I have a #Letterboxd account that I never update for some reason, I definitely should. If you are on Letterboxd let your username and I'll give you a follow, I'm thinking of watching a bunch of people's favorite movies and sharing my thoughts on them just because.
Or just drop your favorite #movie in a comment, I don't care, I'll watch it 😁
Speaking about #movies, I've never heard someone say "Edward Norton is my favorite actor" 💀
And the man is literally the main character in my favorite #movie — that being #FightClub.

So I have hundreds of videos of ~1 minute recorded from my phone ~10 years ago, and they generally don’t have that great compression, nor they are stored in a modern and advanced video format.
For archiving purposes, I want to take advantage of my workstation’s mighty GPU to process them so that the quality is approximately the same, but the file size would be strongly reduced.
Nevertheless, compressing videos is terribly hard, and way more complex than compressing pictures, so I wouldn’t really know how to do this, what format to use, what codec, what bitrate, what parameters to keep an eye on, etc.
I don’t care if the compression takes a lot of time, I just want smaller but good looking videos.
Any tips? (Links to guides and tutorials are ok too)
Also, unfortunately I am forced to use Windows for this (don’t ask me why 🫠), but I know nothing about Windows because I hate it. Practical software suggestions are very much welcome, too!
