#movie #75: Hot Fuzz

Absolutely on of my top 10 films all time.

I don’t even know how many more superlatives I can throw at this movie. It’s one of my all-time favorites and is probably the movie I’ve watched the most times as an adult.

Also, the bad guys want to “make Sandford great again” which is truly some prescient phrasing for a 2007 film.

#movie #73: Les Misérables

I'll give it this. They clearly let the actors do their own singing. For a couple actors, it really elevated a couple songs, especially Anne Hathaway doing I Dreamed a Dream. In other cases, let's just say it wasn't great.

You may remember Ben Affleck from his outstanding performance in "Eurotrip", but did you know that big break was only due to an accident? He was shooting a low-budget and mostly forgotten Bourne movie (or sth, idk) nearby and he just managed to join the Eurotrip crew for a day.

#movie #69: Strange Harvest

The mockumentary format is a risky once, IMO. Occasionally it can really work (more often for comedy), but here it was a pretty okay horror story in a generic Netflix-style crime documentary package.

Saw The Ballad of Wallis Island today at Cinema Nova with @NarrelleMHarris.

What a great little film! Just five characters, three of them significant, brought together on an island off the Welsh coast when a wealthy eccentric (Tim Key) decides to pay for a private concert by a famous former musical duo he adored.

It's a lovely gentle comedy which becomes something more bittersweet and doesn't head where you might expect it to go. Recommended.

It's #Kaijuktober! And to celebrate it I'm watching a #kaiju #movie every day.

Today's movie was: All Monsters Attack / ゴジラ・ミニラ・ガバラ オール怪獣大進撃 (1969)

A #film that subverts all tropes in the kaiju "genre", offering a whimsical adventure through the eyes of a bullied child. Ishirō Honda and Shinichi Sekizawa achieved what at that point was believed to be impossible: offer a fresh take.

I give it 3½/5 Kaiju
