What do you even call it when you have nostalgia for technology that was released in the same year as you were released

Sony Short Wave radio receiver CRF-330K with integrated cassette deck from around 1978. It's dials and switches and wheels and buttons and lights and toggles everywhere.

Can't be common. Never seen even a photo or ad before.

Approx 1978 to 1981. The tuning based on a much older Racal design, though may predate the Racal radios

I'm nostalgic for the R1155, made long before I was born. I swapped a Japanese AM/FM portable for one.

Front view of the 1940 - 1945 Pye designed receiver used in MTBs, Lancaster bombers and RAF control towers. Alloy and steel case options. Usually paired with the T1154 transmitter. The loudspeaker, speaker amp and power supply units plug into the recessed pins on the front. MW Radio Eireann was near the higher than usual IF, so an "Athlone" blocking filter was added.

@thomasfuchs It's a beautiful piece and if you resemble it your old folks did a pretty good job.

I had a writing teacher who said - if you want to write a story about the past or the future, look at its technology. The people will be pretty much the same.

@thomasfuchs that would still be a decent receiver today (although it probably cost as much as a used car back then)

@thomasfuchs There’s a German word for it:

Entstehungsjahrtechnikwehmut

Ok, I just made that up but I think it’s pretty spot on.
