For years, the NHS has been training too few medics & nurses but this has been covered by utilising trained staff from overseas (some would argue thereby damaging health services in poorer countries by luring away their trained staff)...

but now migrant medical staff are beginning to shy away from coming to Britain due to the general anti-migrant rhetoric & (new/revised) immigration polices.

This leaves the NHS with a worsening staffing problem!

@ChrisMayLA6 we aren't even employing the ones we do train https://news.sky.com/story/gps-working-as-uber-drivers-because-they-cant-find-jobs-as-medics-warn-of-unprecedented-crisis-13317540

Sky News

GPs 'working as Uber drivers' because they can't find jobs as medics warn of 'unprecedented crisis'

Experts told Sky News that a lack of core funding for GP practices means there is not enough money to recruit - at a time when demand for appointments has reached an all-time high.

@otfrom

Yes, the bottle-neck of both training places & first medical jobs is an outstanding mess.... just unbelievable!

@ChrisMayLA6 @otfrom my cousin has just been caught out by that.

She graduated in a cohort of 50 new mental health nurses. There were 30 suitable placements.

She's talking about maybe going to Australia, where apparently placements can be found. She may not come back.

We have become the poorer nation losing healthcare professionals to elsewhere in the world, and it is entirely our making.
