I see a lot of complaints that our politicians are not on Mastodon.

Maybe we should look at this the other way round: Get everyone you know to join Mastodon — once we reach a high user count, the politicians will have to join to reach their constituents.

@randahl I don't think any of my local politicians really want to reach their constituents

@randahl The EU should mandate that all official communication must be made available on free-to-access communication systems under European laws. Once that condition has been satisfied, it can then be posted elsewhere as well if there's interest.

@randahl
Growing Mastodon won’t magically fix political access. Canadian politicians follow votes, donors, and headlines—not user counts. 📊
Action: Join one local riding newsletter or town hall mailing list. Boring? Yes. More effective than hoping MPs chase platforms? Also yes.

@randahl Or... Or... hear me out... we do everything humanly possible to keep the politicians OFF Mastodon so we can enjoy our online time without all the toxicity that plagues other platforms.

@randahl I call it The Fediverse so as not to imply that mastodon-social is the only place to have an account. It's come to my attention that everyone using the same server defeats some of the purpose of having a distributed network. #Decentralized

We need more people so that more journalists will join. THEN the politicians will follow.

@randahl Politicians would just want to post BS and have their adoring fans tell them how great they are.

There would be no attempt to engage people and build up followers, or answer genuine questions.

Then they'd leave and tell everyone mastodon didn't work.

It's a bit too late for this Christmas wish.
Would you join a crowd waiting for someone perhaps to appear? 😉

I wish you all the best for jul! It's good that you are here. Thank you.

@randahl The other other way: be on Mastodon, run for office, win, then stay on afterward so that constituents can join to stay updated on all of our various woke agenda victories.

@randahl exactly my point. But another point I made to my company is why are we giving away our user data to some social media company?

If we hosted our own instance, gave out PR, marketing, and those that would need a profile, CEO, etc. and let out users interact with us via that we wouldn't be giving away our information nor our customers and since it's federated it would have the same reach.

And we wouldn't be locked into a platform that may not be aligned with our corporate culture.

What terms and conditions?

The software license or the terms of any one instance? In the latter case, they would obviously be expected to set up their own instance (like they have their own web hosting, not using a Geocities or modern equivalent page. With Mastodon and unlike Shitter, that's something they can do.
