Seven years ago I read this book about electric power systems, and my takeaway was that the end of the "Steampunk Grid" was within sight. But it's bigger than that. It's the end of heat as our civilization's main energetic expression. #Energy #Electricity #Books

The End of the Steampunk Grid - Amateur Earthling

We live with a Steampunk Grid: a gloriously analog artifact of the Victorian Era, that will soon be replaced by a seething, self-aware electricity system.

@ZaneSelvans I used to work in the grid energy storage industry. There was a lot of talk of peaker plants becoming obsolete thanks to batteries, due to their flexibility. The talk of that was a decade or so ago, but it's in the process of happening.

I'll have to check this book out, and maybe dust off some class notes about load flow calculations.
