I spent like five hours today reading about Baseball.
I spent like five hours today reading about Baseball.
I like listening to baseball on the radio.
@ajroach42 Baseball is the perfect radio sport.
I do not like watching baseball on television. I don't mind it in person.
I was specifically reading about Josh Gibson, the man who has the best all time batting average in the history of baseball.
He was a Black man who played baseball before the MLB allowed people of color to participate, and his career statistics have only been recently included alongside his MLB contemporaries.
There are no surviving radio broadcasts of any of the games Gibson participated in. This isn't surprising, but it is disappointing.
Based on what I read, at least one match Gibson played received a full play by play broadcast, but If it survives I have been unable to find it.

Along the way, I found a few people talking about re-recording new play by play commentary for historic baseball matches.
This is adjacent to, but separate from, a thing that I've talked about doing (recording fake baseball play-by-play for #SkiesOfTomorrow )
I also found some folks recording fake baseball games (apparently as sleep aids, in at least one example: https://www.sleepbaseball.com/ )
This, of course, has led me to revisit old radio broadcasts.
There are a few good collections. I've listened to many of these: https://archive.org/details/classicmlbbaseballradio/
There are some more here: https://archive.org/details/cbotrarchive
Many of these broadcasts stretch well over 2 hours, which is not surprising, baseball is a long game.
@ajroach42 I don't mind watching in person. I like going to local minor league team.
