1. Draw a shape, like, a rectangle at random somewhere on a map, as large as you can
2. Give it a name. This is now a country, a province or what you want
3. Compare it to other, smaller shapes the other people drew on a map
4. Oh wow! Your rectangle is so much bigger than the other shapes!
5. 🏆🥇🫅
@sundogplanets Saskatchewan - just as big as Afghanistan.
Interesting site btw!
What is with that weird wedge on the Eastern edge of the province? Has something been lost since I was in school?
@sundogplanets I think it's right, but given that that site has Kenya listed as an Asian country I have a few questions.
@MichaelTBacon
Yeah, “The Balkans” is also a “European country”?

@sundogplanets There was a studio in Winnipeg that created this Manitoba vs the World print, which was also kind of cool: https://www.thelocalscollective.ca/products/mb-vs-the-world-print
@sundogplanets a lot of the places that are bigger seem to be mostly empty (which I guess is also true of Saskatchewan, especially once you get far enough north).
But British Columbia is 1.45 times the size of Saskatchewan! 💪
@sundogplanets Everytime I check latitudes (doesn't happen too often, to be honest), it boggles my mind how far south everything in Canada is, compared to Europe. (Yes, it's also big, but the northern border of Saskatchewan is on the same latitude as the southern coast of Finland?!)
@sundogplanets Reminds me of when someone from the UK referred to Chile as a very narrow country. The reply was an overlaid map showing Chile was as large as Britain and way longer/larger
@sundogplanets hello 👋 how are you feeling today?
@sundogplanets
If you like, Turkey and Russia can be considered European, but otherwise: yes.
And Saskatchewan has the same size as Manitoba within less than 1% difference, and as Alberta within 1.5%.
Probably _not_ a coincidence.
@sundogplanets Every European country adds up to 10 million Km².
