what's one improvement you'd like to see in #obsidian in 2026?
@kepano I’d really like an easy way to deal with pagination when printing and easy printing without it printing the theme of my obsidian onto paper.
Most of the stuff around this seems to be a little janky.
I use obsidian heavily for documentation. Sometimes I have to share and export to other formats but then have to do lot on top to get it into an acceptable external format or print to “others”
If that makes sense… (1/2)
@kepano document scanning, to easily bring physical notes into Obsidian
@kepano Folder-scoped tags and properties. I’ve a massive vault and seeing all tags and properties lumped together just overwhelms me.
@kepano Integration of csv files, maybe even through bases? I have many cases where a whole note feels too much for a data entry but a line in a markdown file too unstructured, e.g. logs, people, places. Csv plays well with many apps that export to csv and would be a foundation for more data analysis directed features and plugins.
Not sure about the implementation, if eg a base could query md files in the canvas plus csvs and how to chose whether new entries are rows in a csv or new md files.
@kepano It would be interesting to include an option to automatically delete files linked to a note when it is removed. Often, when I delete a note, its attachments become irrelevant, but they remain stored in the attachments folder, taking up unnecessary space.
@kepano Thanks for asking:
- Direct printing
- Geolocation from device
- Vault paths on other hosting providers than iCloud
@kepano
I miss exif Information in the photos which were taken inside of Obsidian. When I export/save as such photos there are no information inside the photo.
That would be great. Thanks.
@kepano Search field in settings dialog. Like in macOS system settings, only better executed the "Obsidian" way ;)
@kepano better editing for bases in table view (easier copying and pasting cell contents, dragging cell contents down to duplicate them, etc)
@kepano Support for nested Frontmatter properties
@kepano double-click images to view the image and be able to zoom
@kepano In Bases :
- optional and dynamic scale bar in Map view
- calendar and timeline view
@kepano PDF/EPUB highlighting and annotations. Similar to taking notes in Kindle, having different colors for highlights and being able to annotate that highlight would be tremendous. Furthermore, being able to link to the annotation directly would invaluable.
Perhaps when you generate an annotation, the annotation opens as a modal window where you write what you need to. After saving, that information is placed into a note with the block id of the highlight stored in the metadata of the file.
@kepano I would really love to see Bases support for Publish!
@kepano properties for and annotations in PDFs, please!
@kepano I hate it when my settings get *reverted without any warning* when using multiple devices with Obsidian Sync… (seems to be a known issue).
@kepano Prieview of file comtents in Bases, like in Dataview
@kepano An easier way to mark and transclude sections that span more than one block
@kepano Make it easier to take photos on Android. I really wish I can open camera from Obsidian, take a picture and immediately insert it into the current note. I believe almost every note taking app can do this.
@kepano Complete removal of the graph feature.
@kepano Make the rendered markdown views in search results that the Query Control BRAT plugin enables a standard option, please.
Also, a widget to allow for surfacing random notes based on tag or query. Bear Notes App supports this and it's absolutely ace for resurfacing content.
And thanks for all the fish this year! You guys rock.
@kepano Improved Search.
(Search Bar to wrap, not scroll horizontally - it would be really good to see the whole thing in one view / Allow editing of search terms in Bookmarks without having to create the bookmark all over again / Also, allow more text in search result previews!)
@kepano Simple Shortcuts support on iOS would be nice.
Say, I have a shortcut that transcribes a voice memo and turns it into a file, and it'd be useful to just pass that directly to Obsidian to show it or append it to a daily note (creating one if it's not there yet).
@kepano 1. publish a single note with a link, sort of like how Craft and Notion handle it. Copy link to clipboard, share with someone else to give them access on the web. Ideally there’d be some light permissions features per note.
2. Integration with calendar and tasks on iOS/macOS. I’d love to have my calendar app’s events exposed to Obsidian, and click to create a note based on an event, and then have the event and the note backlink to one another across apps (like the app Agenda)
@kepano Native client for #SailfishOS.
@kepano UI/UX suggestion for #obsidian - either of
1) new windows should also be able to have the left and right sidebar or
2) new windows should be able to be distinguished from the main window based on the window title
this may be a corner case where I'm one of a few that want this, but this would benefit my aerospace workspace setup, and I'd imagine folks who use Mission Control desktops with obsidian notes on some, but not, all desktops might benefit also
@kepano possibly a long-shot, but link semantics - encoding not just that the current note links to note XYZ, but **why**. Beyond overarching properties of the entire note; within the note body. The graph view is pretty and can help with local connectivity, but being able to annotate the reason for the link is very powerful in terms of setting up a real knowledge graph.

@kepano iCloud-backed vault performance. I know this one is tricky, but it makes the mobile app really painful to use :(
Localized prices for sync.
@kepano better support for multiple users live-editing a vault. I know tools like Git exist, but something that can be like Notion or Google Docs for instantaneous edits would be great. This is the only reason my company hasn't adopted Obsidian at a larger scale for things like Wikis
@kepano ⁃ Add image type to properties.
⁃ Allow text properties to have multiple links (or just allow inline markdown).
⁃ Add a wiki-style sidebar display for properties in documents.
This would make my D&D campaign management 10 times better.
@kepano
Frontmatter date display format is still strictly depending on $LANG and not on $LC_TIME. That is super annoying, because for example the US date format is the stupidest format ever. Please, we've been asking for this for a long time already:
@kepano copy paste within code blocks to avoid putting code fences.
Preview mode of callouts. I like the experience of LaTeX $$ where when focused you can edit the code and the rendering happens right bellow. With callouts we don’t have that I think it would be nicer and more unified experience.
@kepano Publishing it with a floss licence? 🤔😊 of course the licence is not enough, the feature would be to turn it into a common.
@kepano I think it would be useful if you could move the settings window so that it is easier to see what you are changing.
(1) Native task management (checklists/ kanban) with push notifications on due/ reminder date and time. Ideally using natural language or a user friendly/ simple UI.
(2) Select, multi-select and tags available in tables.
Yes... I know that's two.
@kepano since Obsidian is all up on the database now, I would say that a task system that integrates with Bases would be pretty amazing.
Also, maybea little niche, but I would love to be able to see a media player in a Base like I can in a document.
@kepano An option to delete all attachments when deleting a note.
@kepano It would be great to tag people in notes, but without requiring a user account. Maybe an option to select the personal identity within a vault. This would enable many options for team collaboration.
@kepano Native Kanban / better tasks integration. Checklists are cool, but I’d like something more involved.
I’m aware of the community plugins, but they seem unmaintained and I’d always prefer an “official” solution if available. 😊
@kepano Drag’n drop of text blocks
