How do you manage your files? Do you use a #GUI? a #TUI?

I 鉂わ笍 terminals, #shells, and #fzf. Combined with #JohnnyDecimal, here's how I manage my files!

#terminals #zsh #fediverse #blog

@hyde this is wild. It closely aligns with good information architecture practices. Which, in turn, stem from the Dewey Decimal System (that libraries use).

In fact, the Dewey Decimal System also has a foundation of ten classes, like Johnny Decimal.

I use GUI for my files, even though I spend hours in a terminal every day. I鈥檓 going to explore some things from your piece.

@markwyner @hyde I don't use Johnny Decimal precisely, but I do use double digit prefixed directories for stuff I want to see in a particular place. Examples include "00_Archive" or "01_3rdparty". Media have their own scheme, based on publishing year or series order, etc, which I align with the creator's chosen method of ordering.

I find that serves me well enough that a strict number based system tends to be overkill.

Documents get prefixed with the date stamp in YYYYMMDD. Anything less is...
