It's extremely weird wandering around the shops today, enduring Elton John. Literally returned to the UK at 1am, and the past 5 days I have....

Gone up a mountain and mucked about in the snow. Endured a terrifying drive up a massive canyon to see some Roman ruins and ate some weird dried beanpod with strange mountain men. Then ziplined off that canyon (at 130km/h) on 'the highest zipline in the world'. Then white water rafting - unbelievably the least noteworthy thing we did. Then a bunch of other ziplines and dune-buggy racing through a forest river (excellent). Ended up that night playing pool, getting drunk on whisky and dancing with some crazy Russians in a seedy nightclub. Dealt with the hangover next day at a hammam, then accidentally played in a darts tournament. Then yesterday morning went and shot a bunch of automatic weapons with some Turkish ex-special forces (extremely weird) then randomly ended up in a hookah place where we made friends with some Zambian gangsters (word to the wise - you do not want to go to prison in Zambia - like extra a lot).

It has been a wild ride. I'm quite pleased to be back in Blighty, but going from all that to navigating angry Christmas shoppers is quite jarring.

@TheBreadmonkey yes, but were you able to stop Blofeld while on this adventure, 007?

@TheBreadmonkey

I've always wondered how I would feel to fire an automatic weapon at a gun range or suchlike.

I honestly detest guns.

Maybe I'd perversely like unloading a magazine just the once, cathartically.

I've never so much as shot an air rifle thus far in my life.

@Shivviness

So this was my issue. I had to have a complicated conversation with myself beforehand. When I was younger I used to have some awards for shooting, primarily through cadets (which I joined to hang out with friends). But as I've gotten older what they represent is totally at odds with everything I believe in. But my BiL was desperate to do it and I figured it's just bows and arrows at a target. Cut to actually having to do it..... fight/flight, shaking, knees weak, palms are sweaty (vomit on the sweater, moms spaghetti). Shit just got real. No backing out. It's just guns. Deadly deadly terrifying guns. It occurs to me I've never handled a pistol before. I've certainly never shot a modern automatic rifle. Basically.... it was fine. My BiL absolutely loved it. I'm not sure how I felt other than A D R E N A L I N E.

Ultimately I'm pleased he had a positive experience and that I shared that with him. But I wouldn't choose to do it again.

@TheBreadmonkey

That sounds as though it was a good, healthy experience all round then.

There's always that worry that my autistic brain could, upon actually shooting a gun, suddenly get into all things gun related and before you know it I'm got a subscription to "Guns and Ammo" and booked a holiday to Nevada to shoot a .50 cal.

I did buy one of those full body bullet belts and a bandana with an eagle on it.

@TwoClownsEating

Forgot about the cats. There were so so many cats. I was reminded how easily I fall in love. I am a total slag for cats. Before leaving for the airport last night we were sat eating a mountain of baklava and I had to periodically get up to let a procession of miaowing cats in and out of the automatic doors. Like a cat doorman.

I now have the Batman TV show theme tune in my head, but with the words "cat slag".

🎵Dinner, dinner, dinner, dinner, dinner, dinner, CAT SLAG!🎵
