Long-billed Curlew (Numenius americanus), largest shorebird in N. America Their diet consists mostly of grasshoppers, a major food source, beetles, crickets & spiders. In winter they take marine worms, shrimp. The long bill helps them forage in mud. #birds #birdsofmastodon #nature #ecology #photography #wildlife

This is North America's largest shorebird. It is a large, sandy-brown bird with long legs. Its defining feature is its exceptionally long, downward-curved bill, which it uses like a specialized probe to forage for insects in grasslands and marine worms in coastal mudflats.
