Josh Marshall at Talking Points Memo has posted one of his most important pieces, in which he brings historical context to the ascendance -- and profound malignity -- of the ultra-wealthy who are on the verge of destroying us. https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/will-the-21st-century-nabobs-win-their-war-on-public-accountability/sharetoken/aa705d17-c630-40b7-bba9-752e489e3638

I have to agree with what you say. It’s some a different angle on the same side of of information all of us live with.

It might be one thing to see the state dissolved if these death spots were happy to go off and build their little estate cities off in the corner, and the rest of the world had an option to not deal with them or not. But that’s not the nature of insane wealth. It is by net definition, oppressive and despotic.

Great article share, Dan. THANK YOU. My personal take is that the state must take back the spoils of this subjugation of the people. Give this windfall that our systems have allowed to flourish back to those who helped it to grow. That, my friends, is capitalism at its best! The true stake-holders should benefit not the few who leveraged our system.

Excellent reading. Also love the phrase "addictive economies of attention". This is great.

@dangillmor "The billionaires have outgrown the husks of the states which nurtured and made their gargantuan wealth possible. We see it in the Gulf, in Silicon Valley, in the oligarchic regimes of Eurasia. And...the whole civic and political horizon is mainly a crisis of democracy as a crisis of state power, or more specifically accountability to democratic publics. Who exactly has the upper hand? Who is in charge? ....."

@dangillmor Josh is worth keeping around. Just wish he posted here directly like he did on Twitter back in the day. @tpm_rss_bot is nice but not sufficient.
Fight the oligarchs by staying off their platforms - drive attention away.

Great piece. The thing we all need to wake up to is that there are a lot more of We The People than there are Nabobs.
