Are people excited for the next Cameron #Avatar film?

I get that they've had a strange... financial inevitability so far, but # 3? How many stories does that world have to tell?

It has never permeated the social conscience like other impactful films. No one quotes it. No one references it. There is no "yippee ki-yay" from Avatar.

I streamed the second one at home. It was gorgeous, but hollow and repetitive. I thank Cameron for pushing tech forward for other creators, but that's about it.

@chartier I’m excited. But it’s because we have a great home theatre and Avatar and Christopher Nolan are the only things worth going to, you know, a real theatre for on my end.

It’s kinda like my personal version of Cirque du Soleil.

@chartier excited not really. But they've all been quite enjoyable to watch so far. I'd call them picturesque with a forgettable story. There is an overarching storyline now (uniting the tribes or something).

@chartier Just seen the trailer for 3 in the cinema. I immediately asked myself: why?

@rhold Exactly. It just looks like the same exact story repeating in each film.

@chartier it's just Pocahontas in space and 3D isn't it?

Is it still 3D though?

@chartier he claims it is planned as a quintet. 😵‍💫

The first one was fine; I enjoy a sci-fi Pocahontas as much as the next person. But the stories about people freaking out that they would never see a real Pandora seemed like marketing BS.

I thought the second movie was really bad. I have no interest in watching any more of them.

I get that they're visually stunning but how are these mediocre films some of the highest grossing movies of all time?! 🤷

@chartier they are ridiculously forgettable but weirdly okay while actually watching them. I feel like they should be studied. Or maybe the viewers are the ones being studied...

@bigzaphod @chartier I *vaguely* remember a couple of satisfying moments from the first one, which I think I've seen… once and a half? Twice?

But it BAFFLES me that people keep going back for more. It's like watching someone contentedly lick the air above an empty ice cream cone.

@chartier

Very much in "fart in a wind storm" territory. They appear, they vanish. Apparently people watch them.

No "he could have fit on the door" or "get away from her you bitch". Who even writes the Avatar movies?
