@ai6yr Though an M7.6 quake is big for its effects on land, it's on the small end for causing tsunamis. When we see news like this, keep in mind a rule of thumb for estimating #tsunami risk from undersea #quake magnitude:
M7+ -> localized tsunami possible
M8+ -> regional tsunami likely
M9+ -> ocean-crossing tsunami expected
