There's one mystery in freelance consulting/fractional CTO work I never could quite figure out: why do people pay a lot of money to then (mostly) ignore what I tell them? You do you, I guess. I get paid either way. It's just that my desk is starting to show heavy signs of use from the constant head impacts.

@citizen428 I have often seen the situation where I was caught in the middle of a inter-company faction fight. E.g., the CISO orders a penetration test but the dev-team considers this an insult.
The other reason I have experienced is companies treating security purely as a compliance checkbox they have to cross off their lists annually but simply not caring for the results.
