Resale values of Teslas are in the depths for all kinds of reasons, but the central one -- apart from the taint of Musk -- is that the cars are ridiculously crappy and unreliable as they age. https://futurism.com/advanced-transport/old-teslas-falling-apart

Just one more reason to avoid this toxic brand at all costs.

True… apart from the crappy HW quality, in the end you will need to scrap it as the SW safety cannot be guaranteed anymore. Just like we see with OS versions and upgrades. Utterly ridiculous.

@dangillmor They may be reusable, but I don’t hold out much hope for his rockets then.

@dangillmor congrats on the model y I guess, but like, even if you could get a used one cheap using their charging network is more money for musk…

@dangillmor Better to but a used Leaf or Bolt as you can buy parts for them.

@dangillmor no matter how much I dislike Tesla, these comparisons only make sense if they compare electric car to electric car and in that comparison other makers' EVs from the same years would not fare too flatteringly either.

That said, there are some particularly stupid design decisions on these cars (that feel like shit EM must have pushed himself), like hazard lights above sight or door open buttons that a toddler can activate (literally) but inactive on power loss.

@dangillmor Funnily enough I have never owned a car newer than the oldest Tesla... So, they're not even that old.

@dangillmor

Been predicting this. Two things to understand.

1) Tesla's are indeed poorly engineered, and poorly engineered things wear out faster.

2) Teslas are designed new from the ground up and do not have the benefit of the integration of engineering refinements over decades. As these cars get older expect more things to fail simply because there has not been a long history of improving component designs. See below for elaboration on this point.
