Is there such a thing as a gym that specializes in elderly people that can move between guided physical therapy to maintenance exercise?

@alienghic

My gym offers a program that I think does what you are asking.

It’s an 8 week program I think you need a dr referral for it.

It seems like there’s a national certification for this type of program you might search for myfitRx in your area.

@alienghic If you're in UK, my dad's care in his late 80s included just such gym sessions at Guy's Hospital here in London.
Noting that 1)socialised medicine is brilliant and 2)he often refused to attend

Sadly we're in the terrible USA.

However we do seem to share the stubborn elderly person doesn't want to go do their exercises.

I am aware of such gyms here in the Twin Cities, after a relative had a hip replacement. I cannot speak to equivalents elsewhere.

@alienghic My town has a senior center that has chair yoga and Tai chi, along with some weight machines. A lot of Ys have senior exercise programs, too.

When I completed physical therapy at a clinic in a local hospital (chosen by my insurance company), I wanted a lighter, maintenance PT program at my own expense. I asked if they offered such a program. My therapist said, "Yes, but no client has ever done it." The rate they bill the insurers for my therapy is what I would pay. No insurer ever pays the full billed amount.

He said to ask at any independent PT clinic. Most of them will offer reduced rates for uninsured clients.

@alienghic It's possible my mom's gym does this? It's affiliated with a local hospital system. She's done personal training there, but hasn't needed any PT while she's been a member. I'll send you a dm with the link and can ask her for details later if you'd like (though I don't know if she'd know any more than what's on the website).

@alienghic I've seen classes that focus on this, but not gyms. I bet there are personal trainers who can do that though.

@wohali

One elderly relative needs some kind of forced physical therapy maintenance program.

I'm not sure how that might work.

@alienghic There are visits-the-home licensed physical therapists but you're gonna pay a lot more for that kind of service.

@alienghic I know there are definitely folks around here in my area who specialize in this... typically independent and rent gym space.
