A new #NIH grant provision makes it easier for NIH to terminate a grant without a court overturning the decision. From the Nov 18 announcement: "The recipient agrees that…funding…may…be terminated…if the agency determines that the award no longer effectuates the program goals or agency priorities."

Comment from Jenna Norton, an "NIH program officer who was put on administrative leave last month": "This provision…is…going to create a huge amount of uncertainty that may make it nearly impossible to do science. How can you ethically recruit somebody into a #clinicaltrial if you can't be sure the administration won't change its mind on its priorities and terminate your study mid-stream?"
